Snapchat Filter Inspired Halloween Makeup

While searching for inspiration for what I will go as for my Halloween party later this month, I stumbled upon a quizz that told me I should go as a Snapchat filter. Snapchat filters have been all the rage the past few months, and many people have recreated the most iconic ones using makeup. So for today’s Halloween look, I decided to create an easy look inspired by the popular messaging app.

The Concept

Rather than recreating a specific filter, I wanted to emulate some of the features that many Snapchat filters have, and create a simple look that anyone can do using minimal makeup, and still look glamorous and fun. Specifically, I wanted to incorporate a heavy contour, brightened skin, some sparkles and a distinct lip colour.

The Method
EYES

To keep my eyelids looking soft and clean, I used a taupe transition shade and a shimmery brown shadows to create a soft halo look. Then I used black eyeshadow to create a soft smoked out eyeliner. Last but not least, I added 2 layers of mascara to my lashes.
I used faux Swarovski crystals in 2 purple shades and black, which I picked up using a tweezer and glued to my skin using eyelash glue to make sure they stay in place.  I created a really simple pattern, but I think for anyone recreating this, you can make any pattern that best flatters your features or appeals to you.

FACE
First I went in with a cream contour underneath my foundation, before adding a powder contour on top. This method in my opinion yields a more intense contour in general, and that was the look I wanted this time. I highlighted the high points of my face using a purple coloured highligher, to match the eyes and lips. Since the highlighter I chose was coloured, I also didn’t feel the need for using a blush.

LIPS
I chose an ombré lip using two shades of purple. I started by appliying the lighter shade first, before adding the darker shade onto the sides of my lips. I find this to be the easiest method for creating ombre lips as it allows the lighter shade to remain in its original tones instead of adding it on top of a dark colour, which can darken the lighter shade.
